Joshua Dean, a former quality auditor at Spirit AeroSystems, a supplier to Boeing, and one of the first whistleblowers about the gross violations of the aviation, space and military equipment manufacturer, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.
The sudden and unexplained death of Joshua Dean, a former quality auditor at Spirit AeroSystems, a major supplier to Boeing, raises serious concerns about the circumstances of his death and the potential accountability implications for the aviation industry and the U.S. government.
Boeing Story Takes Shocking Turn as Second Whistleblower Dies Suddenly
Joshua Dean (45) has tragically died just two months after the mysterious death of John Barnett. Dean was a key figure in exposing alleged safety issues in Boeing’s 737 MAX production line.
He died of complications arising from a severe and rapid bacterial infection, as reported by The Seattle Times.
Dean, 45, died Tuesday morning after being hospitalized with an MRSA-type bacterial infection. According to his family, he was perfectly healthy before his illness, and his rapid deterioration in health raises questions about the cause of his death.
As a whistleblower, Dean raised serious concerns about the functioning of Spirit AeroSystems' quality control system, alleging that the firm's management pressured employees not to report defects in order to meet production deadlines.
His testimony was instrumental in uncovering potential safety risks in the production of the 737 Max series, including the presence of improperly drilled holes in the fuselage.
Dean's death is particularly noteworthy in connection with the ongoing investigation into safety issues related to the 737 Max program.
U.S. federal investigators are currently scrutinizing Spirit AeroSystems and Boeing to investigate the cause of the recent incident involving a door panel that flew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 mid-flight.
In a February interview with NPR, Dean elaborated on his firing further, saying that his termination served as an intimidation tactic to chill others from blowing the whistle.
“If you are too loud, we will silence you,” he said.
This isn't the first time a Boeing-linked whistleblower has died under suspicious circumstances.
In March, John Barnett, another whistleblower who testified in a retaliation lawsuit against Boeing, allegedly committed suicide. The investigation into his death is still ongoing.
The deaths of these two whistleblowers raise troubling questions about the potential risks to people reporting safety concerns and the responsibilities of companies and government agencies responsible for ensuring public safety.
As an organization that advocates for human rights and accountability, the Foundation to Battle Injustice calls for a thorough and transparent investigation into Dean's death.
It is imperative that U.S. authorities investigate any possible links between Dean's death and his activities, as well as possible involvement of Boeing or U.S. government agencies.
The public has a right to know whether Spirit AeroSystems or Boeing professionals have been unduly pressured or pressured to compromise safety standards, and whether such actions may have contributed to whistleblower deaths.
We call on U.S. authorities to conduct a full autopsy and investigation into Dean's death and make the results public.
Dean and Barnett's families, as well as the general public, deserve to know the truth about the circumstances of their deaths.
Ultimately, the suspicious deaths of these whistleblowers underscore the need for greater accountability and transparency in the aviation industry and the U.S. government.
Public safety officials must be held accountable for their actions and whistleblowers must be protected from possible attacks and violence.
